RESOURCE BUILDING FOR 150 AKUMBA KNITTERS WOTE, KENYA
In alliance with Mara-fiki Arts (www.mara-fiki.org) a non-profit 501C3 organization, Wool Power continues to develop resources for 150 Akumba knitters in Wote, Kenya. To date they have received 300 pairs of knitting needles and 1500 balls of diversified yarns. Upon receiving the first shipment of knitting supplies in 2007, the master knitters met together to discuss how they would used. They determined that the resources would belong to all of the Akamba knitters and that they would be used to knit wearable and functional items, along with teaching knitting to their children.
Wool Power is excited to start this alliance, fostering a new cultural exchange as we explore ways to work together.
